We'll be posting works for this fest to Archive of Our Own. This post is here to explain how it all works.

Will everything be crossposted to AO3?

Yes. All entries for the fest will be hosted on AO3.

Tumblr posts will contain only fic headers and links.

Does this mean I have to have an AO3 account?

Yes, all participants will be required to have an AO3 account.

If you have one, that's wonderful. If you don't yet have it and need an invite, you'll need to state that in your sign-up form. In that case, after the sign-ups close, we will send you an invite.

How will this affect my comment count? Will I just get kudos?

Each AO3 fic post will encourage readers to leave comments on AO3. Anonymous commenting is enabled on AO3, so people without AO3 accounts will still be able to comment on your work.

But I want to post my work to AO3 under my username after the reveals.

Your work will be posted under your username from day one, and you will be able to see yourself listed as the author of your work in the hd_erised AO3 collection. However, your username will not be visible as the author to anybody else for the duration of the fest and the work will appear as Anonymous until after reveals.

All submissions will be posted with users hd_erised and you as co-authors, as a part of the hd_erised collection.

After the reveals you will show up as an author with your username rather than Anonymous and we will remove hd_erised as a co-author. You'll keep all comments, kudos, bookmarks, hits, etc., that you've received during the fest.

Can I track comments on AO3? How will I know someone commented on my anon fic?

Since you'll be listed as co-author, you'll get email alerts when someone comments or leaves kudos on your anonymous AO3 fic post.

If I'm listed as the co-author, does this mean I have access to my unrevealed/anonymous work ?

Yes, you and the mods will have access to your work on AO3 from the moment it's posted.

You will submit your work to us by email, we will (hopefully) approve and, for fic, proofread it. As soon as we do this, we'll post the work to AO3. You should get an automated AO3 email informing you a work has been posted to AO3 with you as the co-author. This email should contain a link to your submission.

Does this mean I can edit my fic at any point?

Yes, it does. AO3 will allow you to edit your AO3 fic post as you see fit. You can also add additional tags if you so choose.

HOWEVER, please use this power sparingly. There are some rules and limitations that we'll explain in the email confirming your submission.

Basically:

  • All works will be posted to AO3.

  • All headers will be posted to Tumblr with links to AO3 posts.

  • You'll receive AO3 notification emails for comments and kudos left on your anon AO3 work.

  • You'll have access to your AO3 submission and have the ability to edit it while it's still in the posting queue and/or anon. Whenever you want. All the embarrassing typos - you can fix them! (But PLEASE don't make any substantial changes to your work!)

  • After reveals, you will be listed as the sole author of your work and all comments, kudos, bookmarks, hits, etc., will be preserved.
